There are many wonderful places to visit and fantastic attractions for all the family. Here are a few suggestions for great days out in Cornwall:
Very close by is the seaside town of Bude with great shops, pubs and restaurants, lovely sandy beaches, canal, boat hire, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley, horse riding, golf course, tennis courts and sea fishing. Crackington Haven, just a few minutes down the road is a picturesque cove with sheer cliffs either side, offer stunning views out to sea. Padstow's lovely harbour made famous by Rick Stein's seafood restaurant is only half an hour away, as are the beautiful bays of Polzeath and Daymer on the Camel Estuary and St. Enodoc Church where the poet laureat John Betjeman is buried and wrote much of his poetry.
Several famous National Trust estates and gardens such as Lanhydrock House are easily reached and if you like the moors, Rough Tor on Bodmin Moor is a stimulating walk.
The wonderfully preserved slate roofed fishing village of Port Isaac is nearby and on your return you can call in at Tintagel and marvel at mythical King Arthur's castle, dizzily perched above the roaring Atlantic. Visit craggy Boscastle Harbour and stop in at the Cobweb Inn where there may be Cornish singing and folk dancing.
Unspoilt Widemouth Bay is ten minutes drive away. Its long sandy beaches are ideal for children and swimmers and it is also the principal surfing beach of the area, well lifeguarded.
The Eden Project and Falmouth's National Maritime Museum are also well worth a visit.

Daphne Du Maurier
Daphne Du Maurier first came to Fowey in her early twenties and immediately fell in love not just with the town but the whole of Cornwall. Her most famous novels, 'Jamaica Inn', 'Frenchman's Creek', 'Rebecca' and 'The House on the Strand' were all inspired by her love of Cornwall, where she lived and wrote.
